The trial of the suspected Nazi collaborator Algimantas Dailide has got under way in Lithuania's capital Vilnius. Dailide moved to the United States in 1950 and lived there until he was deported in 2002 for his service in the Saugumas, the Nazi-sponsored Lithuanian security police for the Vilnius ghetto from 1941 to 1944. So far, no-one has been convicted of Nazi-era war crimes in Lithuania since the country became independent of the Soviet Union in 1991.
