JD Corps Member Alana Pugh-Jones Baranov Represents the Jewish Community at Interfaith Gathering in Durban

JD Corps member Alana Pugh-Jones Baranov represented the Jewish community at an interfaith event in Durban, South Africa, hosted by the Catholic-based Denis Hurley Centre together with the Grey Street Mosque.

The gathering brought together religious leaders and community representatives to discuss the role of faith communities in responding to global and local challenges.

Speakers included Dr. Raymond Perrier, Director of the Denis Hurley Centre; Dr. A.V. Mohamed, leader of the Grey Street Mosque, the largest mosque in the southern hemisphere; and international guest speaker Reverend John Witcombe, Dean of Coventry Cathedral in the United Kingdom.

The discussion focused on the current global climate, including conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere, and explored how people of faith can contribute to addressing challenges within their own communities.

Participants highlighted the role faith communities can play in tackling issues such as crime and corruption, xenophobia, gender-based violence, and homelessness, and emphasized the importance of cooperation across religious traditions to strengthen local communities.
