On May 10th, around Yom Hashoah and the Dutch Day of Remembrance, Make Their Memory Shine (MTMS) organized an educational seminar about remembrance cultures, Stolpersteine, and volunteerism in the age of growing Holocaust Denial with StandWithUs Netherland.
MTMS provided the tools and knowledge to four dozen participants who participated in debates and conversations regarding the Holocaust's legacy. This event followed MTMS's presentation at the University of Utrecht.
Following the lengthy discussion and presentation, all the volunteers split into multicultural groups to dedicate their free time to cleaning the city's Stolpersteine and sparking conversation with city dwellers.
On May 10th, the participants cleaned over 450 stones, about half of Amsterdam's. They also motivated city dwellers to continue cleaning and joining the movement, inspiring them to make their memories shine. MTMS dedicates itself to combatting ignorance among our populations.
There is still a long way to go regarding the maintenance of the stones and promoting Holocaust education.
This cleaning was part of a new wave of cleanings organized by MTMS in the Netherlands and beyond. MTMS has organized events in 20 countries and over 70 cities.
The event was helped made possible with help from WJC's NextGenInc.
