This past weekend, from April 25–26, WJC NextGen and AJC Campus Affairs co-hosted a Global Student Shabbaton in New York City, bringing together 70 student leaders from 27 countries for an inspiring weekend of learning and community.
Throughout the Shabbaton, participants engaged in thoughtful discussions on Jewish identity, leadership, and global advocacy, sharing ideas and experiences from their diverse communities around the world. They celebrated Shabbat with the Fifth Avenue Synagogue community, learning about and hearing from the local community, and heard from Sacks Scholar Dr. Tanya White, who spoke about Jewish leadership, resilience, and the role of young Jews in shaping the future.
A highlight of the Shabbaton was a joint session featuring Maram Stern, Executive Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, and Ted Deutch, CEO of the American Jewish Committee. Their candid conversation on Jewish diplomacy and leadership gave students invaluable insight into the challenges and opportunities of representing Jewish communities on the world stage.
