The World Jewish Congress finds it unfortunate that an advertisement appearing in the 'New York Times' last Saturday made a personal attack against United States National Security Adviser Susan Rice.
"Susan Rice is an honorable, highly respected public servant who, both as national security adviser and before that as US permanent representative at the United Nations, has been a proven friend and ally of the State of Israel and the Jewish community.
"As Prime Minister Netanyahu commented: 'We condemn these ads and oppose personal attacks of every kind.' The World Jewish Congress deeply believes that disagreements are most effectively worked out in civil discourse. Issues can and should be debated respectfully among allies, without attacks on personalities or individuals," the WJC said in a statement.
The ad was taken out by 'This World: The Values Network' and published two days before Rice’s scheduled speech at the AIPAC conference in Washington this Monday. It said Rice was “blind” to genocide, “both the Jewish people’s and Rwanda’s" and claims she steered then-US President Bill Clinton to avoid using the term “genocide” before the 1994 November midterms, fearing political repercussions should the White House appear complacent.
