NEW YORK – World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder has sent a letter of commendation to US Senator Ted Cruz, welcoming the bipartisan co-sponsorship of the STOP Using Human Shields Act.
“On behalf of the World Jewish Congress, I want to thank you and your Democratic and Republican co-sponsors, personally, for introducing the STOP Using Human Shields Act, which I believe is vital on several accounts," Lauder wrote to Senator Cruz.
“First, it reinforces the beliefs of the United States of America, which has defended and liberated oppressed people throughout the world over the course of its history. Second, it puts terror organizations on notice that they cannot use their own helpless citizens as cannon fodder to cover their own evil motives. And, third, it makes it clear to organizations like the U.N. that if they can’t and won’t put politics aside and lead in the effort to protect human beings throughout the world, we will," he wrote.
“I would like to add that with all the criticism of political gridlock in Washington today, it is wonderful to see this legislation co-sponsored by members of both parties. Once again, your legislation is not just crucial, but timely as well, and it makes me proud to be an American," Lauder concluded.
