NEW YORK – World Jewish Congress (WJC) President Ronald S. Lauder praised the U.S. House of Representatives today for “standing behind the Jewish people” and unanimously approving two resolutions this week aimed at combating anti-Israel incitement within the Palestinian Authority and at curbing anti-Semitic attacks in Europe.
The first resolution, H.Res.293, which passed on Monday, urges the Palestinian Authority to rein in the incitement that has prolonged the recent wave of violence in Israel, while the second, H.Res.354, passed Tuesday, calls on the administration to encourage European governments, law enforcement agencies and intergovernmental organizations to partner with Jewish community groups to guard against anti-Semitic attacks.
“With these two important resolutions, the House of Representatives has sent a resounding message that the United States will not tolerate anti-Semitism or violence,” Lauder said. “The wave of terror crashing down on Israel must be stopped. The heinous attacks that plagued Europe in the last year must never be repeated. I urge both the Palestinian Authority and European governments to heed this call to reason and stop the incitement.”
