A professor at the University of Oregon has settled a $1.1 million defamation lawsuit against authors of a column that labeled him anti-Semitic and accused him of indoctrinating students. Douglas Card launched a lawsuit in 2003 after the authors, Daniel Pipes and his research assistant, Jonathan Schanzer, accused him of describing Israel as "a terrorist state" and Israelis as "baby killers" in his course. Card was appealing the dismissal when the case from federal court on what he described as "procedural grounds" when the parties settled out of court. Terms of the settlement are confidential.
