French police have arrested a Romanian man who scrawled a swastika and a Star of David on the wall of an Interior Ministry building while shouting "Long live Germany!". Paris police were not sure whether the man, who was caught defacing the building in broad daylight, was a racist or a deranged person inspired by a recent series of desecrations at Jewish, Muslim and Christian cemeteries. Yesterday, a Catholic graveyard in the town of Saint-Etienne was desecrated, and on Monday, the head of a regional Muslim body filed a complaint against 'X' (persons unknown) for drawing a swastika and scrawling the words "Death to Nabaoui" outside his wife's medical office in the eastern city of Strasbourg.
