The Foreign Ministry of Lithuania took an active part of the World Jewish Congress’ #WeRemember campaign, dedicating their Facebook page to sharing the message with the world.
The Lithuanian embassy in South Africa opened an exhibition, entitled The Sounds of Silence of photographer Raimondas Paknys at the Holocaust Center in Durban, on January 26, the day before International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Ambassador Sigute Jakstonyte noted that "with the opening of this exhibition we have joined the World Jewish Congress 's international campaign #WeRemember, the Embassy reports.
Thirty photographs by Paknys capture synagogues, cemeteries and other Jewish heritage in Lithuania, and what has remained after the Holocaust and the Soviet neglect. The guests were also introduced to the Jewish heritage reconstruction projects that have been implemented recently, or are currently being implemented in Lithuania.
Before arriving to South Africa the exhibition was displayed in Vilnius, London, Jerusalem, and Paris.
