The courthouse in Sacramento, California, has decided that both a Christmas tree and menorah are holiday, rather than religious, symbols and thus can be displayed in the lobby of the building. When attorney Michele Waldinger noticed that a Christmas tree had been erected in the lobby she asked the building's manager if she could donate a menorah and tissue paper dreidels for a Hanukkah display nearby. The display caused a debate on the religious significance of the items and both the tree and menorah were initially removed, however after discussions both were returned to the lobby.
