Muslim teacher Tariq Ramadan is eligible to apply for a new work visa to the US, a spokesman for the US State department has told the news agency AFP. The 41-year old scholar, who carries a Swiss passport, was expected at Indiana's Notre Dame University this week to teach a course on Islamic philosophy, but his work visa was revoked by authorities due to national security concerns. Ramadan has been accused in the past of making anti-Semitic statements. However, a Notre Dame official called him a "voice of moderation in the Muslim world". The controversial teacher was not ineligible to receive a visa, the State department spokesman said.
