NEW YORK – Following an earthquake in Morocco, in which at least 2,000 lives were lost, Amb. Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, released the following statement:
“I am shocked and deeply saddened at the images from Morocco where a major earthquake cost more than two thousand lives and deeply impacted many Moroccans. At this moment of great challenge, my heart is with the Moroccan people and the heroic first responders combing through the rubble.
“We are in contact with the Jewish community in Morocco and have let them know that they will have our full support in the weeks and months ahead as they navigate this tragic large-scale disaster. We will stand alongside them as they rebuild.
“May the memories of those lost be for a blessing.”
