WJC Executive Vice President Maram Stern met with the Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén and Minister for European Union Affairs János Bóka on 12 and 13 March to address pertinent topics affecting the Jewish community and coordinate potential avenues of collaboration for the upcoming Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Additionally, Stern held discussions with Péter Sztáray, State Secretary for Security Policy and Energy Security, and Vince Szalay-Bobrovniczky, the Deputy State Secretary for Civil and Social Relations. Throughout these meetings, WJC underscored Hungary's status as home to one of Europe's largest Jewish communities and stressed the importance of fostering Jewish life during the upcoming Hungarian Presidency. WJC also conveyed appreciation to the Hungarian government for its steadfast support of Israel and the protection it provides to its Jewish citizens.
Stern also met with the leadership of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz), including with President Andor Grósz, Vice-President Péter Nógrádi and the Chief Rabbi of Hungary, Róbert Frölich. Discussions centered on the challenges and opportunities facing the Hungarian Jewish community, as well as potential avenues for future collaboration with WJC.
