The Jewish Institutions Representative Council of France (CRIF), a member community of the World Jewish Congress, held its 32nd acclaimed annual dinner on Wednesday night in Paris, with honored guests including French President Francois Hollande, WJC President Ronald S. Lauder, CRIF President Francis Kalifat and former president Roger Cukierman, and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.
French presidential candidates Emmanuel Macron, François Fillon and Benoît Hamon also attended the dinner.
In a keynote address to the Jewish umbrella organization, President Hollande declared that France is committed to a two-state solution for the Middle East conflict, adding that it was the only way to guarantee that Israel remain a “pluralist and democratic society.”
Hollande also said that an agreement must be reached between the Israelis and Palestinians on every core issues, including the status of Jerusalem.
He added that France was committed to monitoring freedom of access for sites in Jerusalem holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims.
“This is the French position and I’m sure it won’t change,” he said.
