Sami Herman, the former president of the Turkish Jewish Community, has passed away at the age of 66 following a long illness.
Born in 1950 in Istanbul, Herman graduated in economics and business administration and became a successful CEO of a healthcare company.
For many years he was involved with the Jewish community board from 1992.
Following six years as vice-president of the Jewish Community of Turkey, Herman was elected its president in 2010. In 2013, he handed over his post to Isaak Ibrahimzadeh.
Herman was married with two children. He was fluent in English, French and Spanish.
