Matty Fisher's commitment to raising awareness for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) continues to gain recognition, as his advocacy work was recently highlighted in The Jewish Chronicle. Diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 13, Matty has turned his personal experience into a mission to support others affected by IBD, particularly within the Jewish community.
Matty’s journey began with creating a documentary, Matty Fisher: Life Goes On, which quickly garnered online attention. He followed this with another successful documentary, 24 Hours with IBD, which won a gold award at the 2022 National Student Television Awards. These films have been instrumental in educating the public about the realities of living with IBD.
As a Lauder Fellow, Matty is working on a new initiative called “Young Jews with IBD,” a network that connects students and young adults living with the condition. His efforts aim to create a supportive community where individuals can share experiences, offer advice, and provide emotional support.
His work not only raises awareness about the challenges of living with IBD but also highlights the importance of early diagnosis, support networks, and fostering understanding within the Jewish community. Through his ongoing advocacy, he continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those affected by this invisible but powerful disease.
