On November 25th, JDA member Claire Frankel moderated a profoundly impactful event in partnership with CUJS and Hillel Montreal. The keynote speaker, Dr. Cochav Elkayam Levy, Head of Israel’s Civil Commission on October 7th Crimes by Hamas Against Women and Children, delivered a powerful address on the atrocities of that day. This event coincided with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, highlighting the urgent need to address and condemn acts of violence and to stand in solidarity with survivors.
Jewish students across Canada have faced efforts to deny or downplay the atrocities of October 7th, including instances of sexual violence committed against women and children. Dr. Elkayam Levy’s presentation highlighted these crimes and underscored the importance of seeking justice for the victims. The event also emphasized the necessity of creating supportive environments for Jewish students on Canadian campuses, ensuring they have access to resources related to sexual violence without fear of exclusion.
