On Wednesday, 11 September, Yoni Hammerman, Deputy Director of WJC Elevate and Director of WJC NextGen, spoke at the second session of the "Fight Hates" student activist cohort. The cohort, composed of students from over 20 universities across the United States, including Brown, Columbia, Emory, UT Austin, Michigan, Stanford, Yale, USC, Princeton, and UPenn, is dedicated to combating hate and antisemitism on campuses.
During the session, Hammerman addressed the growing prevalence of antisemitism within academic spaces and highlighted best practices for students to counter such behavior. His remarks focused on the importance of fostering real, meaningful relationships as a core strategy in building inclusive campus communities and proactively addressing hate.
Hammerman also expanded the conversation beyond the U.S., offering insights into antisemitism on campuses worldwide. He emphasized the necessity for students to maintain a global perspective in their efforts to combat antisemitism.
The "Fight Hates" cohort session provided an opportunity for student leaders to engage with Hammerman on these critical issues, equipping them with strategies to respond to and prevent antisemitism at their respective institutions.
