Ahlan Europe, a project founded during the Lauder Fellowship by NextGen members Emma Hallali, Hanna Nir, and Guy Dabby-Joory, organized their first-ever conference in Thessaloniki, Greece, together with the European Union of Jewish Students, a partner of WJC, from May 9th to 12th, 2024. This four-day seminar addressed the underrepresentation and unique challenges faced by European Jewish students of Middle Eastern and North African heritage. The conference was an opportunity to foster collaboration, empowerment, and awareness among MENA-Jewish students and young professionals in Europe, celebrating the diversity of Sephardi and Mizrahi Jewish experiences. Among many sessions, Isaac Choua, WJC’s Middle East & North Africa Communities Liaison, also gave two sessions titled “Exploring MY Identity: A Jew with MENA Roots – Globally, Among Peers, and Within” and "Zionism Through the Eyes of MENA Jews: Herzl? Never heard of Him".
