Last week, the US Department of Education Office of Civil Rights concluded its investigation at the University of Vermont. The investigation was opened after the Louis D. Brandeis Center and WJC partner Jewish on Campus filed a complaint about rampant antisemitism on campus and the UVM administration failing to do anything about it.
This is not only the first time during the Biden administration that the Office of Civil Rights has come to a resolution agreement regarding antisemitism, but it is also the first time Title VI has been applied to expressions of anti-Zionism as antisemitism. This sets a precedent for Title VI complaints regarding antisemitism in the future.
As a result of the resolution agreement made between the Office of Civil Rights and the University, the UVM administration will be implementing several measures to ensure the improvement of the antisemitism problem on their campus.
