Isaac Choua, the WJC’s Global Interfaith Lead, and liaison for Jewish communities in the Middle East and North Africa, alongside JD Academy member Nora Monasheri and Jewish civil rights activist Adela Cojab, played a key role in organizing a recent exhibition celebrating Sephardi heritage. The event showcased the lasting contributions of Jewish individuals from the MENA region in fields such as music, diplomacy, sports, art, and intellectual thought. The exhibition highlighted Sephardi Jews' pioneering achievements, including introducing cinema to North Africa, and encouraged viewers to delve into the region's tragic history of Jewish communities.
The exhibit also emphasized the ongoing impact of Jewish contributions in the MENA, offering a more nuanced understanding of the diverse ideologies within Jewish communities, such as Zionism and Arab Nationalism. By challenging stereotypes and misconceptions, the WJC’s initiative aimed to deepen the understanding of the MENA region's development and the significant role Jewish communities played in shaping it.
