From 10–17 August 2025, the European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS) hosted its annual Summer U in Bulgaria, bringing together young Jewish leaders from across Europe for a week of learning, networking, and cultural exchange.
This year’s event once again featured a strong presence from WJC NextGen, with 30 members in attendance. WJC is proud to support and partner with Summer U, advancing its mission to empower the next generation of Jewish leaders.
As part of the program, Yoni Hammerman, Director of WJC Elevate, led a session titled "how to lead while the world is burning", where he shared perspectives on leadership during times of crisis as well as how to manage burn out. Additionally, Máté Holler, Elevate Coordinator, held a session on online antisemitism as well as introduced HO:PE, WJC TecHRI’s new tool for reporting and tracking antisemitic content.
A highlight of the week was the EUJS elections for the new president and board members. Hanna Veiler (JD Academy member, former WJC Fellow) was unanimously elected President of EUJS. In total, 7 of the 9 newly elected leaders are members of WJC NextGen:
We thank outgoing EUJS President and JDA member Emma Hallai for her dedication and leadership, and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in her next chapter. Congratulations as well to JDA member Matty Fisher, recipient of the Inspiring Activist of the Year Award, a well-deserved recognition of his passion, commitment, and impact.
Beyond the WJC-led sessions, Summer U offered a diverse program including political advocacy workshops, leadership training, and Jewish learning experiences. We are excited to continue our partnership with EUJS, working closely with the new President and board to empower the next generation of Jewish leaders.
