Fighting typhus in the Warsaw Ghetto

While forced to live in overcrowded and filthy conditions, the Jewish residents of the Warsaw Ghetto experienced a devastating typhus epidemic. The disease, however, would mysteriously ebb away. Researchers at Tel Aviv University now believe that a major health education campaign focusing on hygiene, sanitation, and social distancing saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
