On Monday 28 October 2019 the President of the Jewish World Congress (WJC), Ronald S. Lauder, and the President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, and WJC Commissioner for Holocaust Memory, Dr. h.c. Charlotte Knobloch, will present Chancellor Angela Merkel with the annual WJC Theodor Herzl Award during a Gala Dinner in Munich.
The award honors outstanding personalities who work towards Theodor Herzl's ideal of a secure and tolerant world for the Jewish people. Past recipients of the Theodor Herzl Prize include the Rothschild family, former US Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, former American Vice President Joseph R. Biden, former Israeli President Shimon Peres, Elie and Marion Wiesel, former US Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger and George P. Shultz and posthumously Ronald Reagan and Axel Springer.

The Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress will be meeting in Munich in conjunction with the second WJC International Meeting of Special Envoys and Coordinators Combating Antisemitism. On Tuesday 29 October a press briefing will be held following a joint session of the International Special Envoys and Coordinators for Combating Antisemitism and the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress. The press briefing will take place in the Bayerischer Hof Hotel at 12.00
