New York - The World Jewish Congress strongly condemns the desecration of the Holocaust Monument of Thessaloniki in Greece and urges authorities to crack down on antisemitism and protect its Jewish citizens and its property.
“Antisemitism is rising across Europe at an alarming rate. In Thessaloniki alone, this is the third time in seven months that this Holocaust memorial has been desecrated. We cannot stand by in silence as Jewish communities live in fear. We urge the Greek authorities to treat this incident with the utmost severity, and to do everything in their power to prevent such antisemitic attacks from occurring again. It is their responsibility to protect each of their citizens, including the Greek Jewish community, to the fullest. The World Jewish Congress stands ready to assist in every way possible.”
