WJC and Rwandan mission to UN to host special discussion on implementation of Genocide Convention

NEW YORK – The World Jewish Congress and the Permanent Mission of Rwanda to the United Nations will be holding discussion on March 26 at the UN headquarters in New York on the 70th anniversary of the Genocide Convention.

The discussion will focus on moving from definition to implementation of the convention, featuring a range of international experts, including Castro Wesamba, the head of office at the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide; Jacqueline Murekatete, survivor of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda and founder and president of the Genocide Survivors Foundation; Robert Mardini, Permanent Observer of the International Committee of the Red Cross to the United Nations; Professor Yehuda Mirsky, of Brandeis University; and Menachem Rosensaft, WJC General Counsel.  

Father Patrick Desbois, Founder and President of Yahad - In Unum, will be awarded the Raphael Lemkin Award for exemplary work in the fight against genocide.
