The Spanish government has ordered its state-controlled satellite broadcaster Hispasat to remove the Lebanon-based TV channel Al-Manar, which is widely regarded as a mouthpiece of the radical political movement Hezbollah, from its Latin American broadcasts. The Industry ministry’s decision to remove Al-Manar from its broadcasts comes after similar decisions by French and US authorities last year. The station has repeatedly screened anti-Semitic broadcasts which received widespread condemnation in Europe. The license to broadcast on Hispasat was granted in April 2004 by the then Spanish government of prime minister José Maria Aznar.
