Police in the Russian city of Derbent have detained a 36-year-old man on suspicion of involvement in the desecration of a Jewish cemetery, according to a report by the ‘RIA-Novosti’ news agency. Multiple gravestones in a local cemetery were vandalized, although the report did not specify in which manner. Derbent is the southern-most city in the Russian Federation, located in the Republic of Dagestan, and has had a Jewish population for almost 1,500 years.
