Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) raised more than 10 million rubles during an online fundraising campaign in support of disadvantaged children, low-income families, and elderly people affected by the coronavirus outbreak. The funds will be used for a variety of purposes, including the purchasing and delivery of food, school supplies, disinfectant and protective gear, and other necessities.

The campaign was streamed online for several hours and featured performances and appearances from several noteworthy figures, including the director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts Marina Loshak, the full member of the Russian Academy of Education Alexander Asmolov, the rock musician and the founder of Russia's oldest still active rock band “Mashina Vremeni” Andrey Makarevich, the CEO of the business radio station Business FM and many other powerful speakers, musicians and public figures.

WJC Vice President and RJC President Yuri Kanner said that for many years the RJC has “supported the work home care assistants and social workers who look after older people with health problems living alone and provide assistance to needy families with children with disabilities.”

“We’ve been able to provide children in underprivileged families with food, seasonal clothing, and school supplies,” Kanner said. “During this pandemic, we need help to continue our work.”
