Prada-owned clothing company under fire for items bearing yellow star patch

The Italian high fashion women’s clothing and accessor brand Miu Miu has drawn criticism this week after an Israeli activist noted that some of the items for sale on the company’s website bore a suspicious resemblance to the yellow Star of David patch Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust. 

The World Jewish Congress contacted Prada, the owner of the Miu Miu brand, to express its discomfort and demand that the items be removed. The star patches are five-pointed, rather than six, but their placement on the side of the clothing and the yellow coloring are unquestionably similar to the yellow Star of David patch, as is the fact that the patches are adorned with the name ‘John’ - an unnerving similarity to the word ‘Jude’ emblazoned on the original Nazi patch.

A Prada spokesman said that he would bring the attention to the senior vice president of the company for further discussion and that he would update the WJC of the company’s decision by Tuesday.

In 2014, the Zara clothing company was forced to pull a striped shirt with a yellow star badge, which it claimed was meant to be a sheriff symbol but elicited strong condemnation.
