An Israeli Jewish man was stabbed by a Palestinian woman in the Old City of Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, sustaining light wounds. This was the third stabbing attack in the capital this week.
The assailant approached the victim, a man in his 30s, at around 10:45 A.M. and stabbed him in the back, police said. The victim quickly pulled out his gun and shot his attacker, seriously wounding her. She was transferred to hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred on Haggai Street in the Muslim Quarter, one of the most heavily guarded areas in Israel. The attack took place near where two ultra-Orthodox men, Nehemia Lavi and Aharaon Bennett, were fatally stabbed by a Palestinian assailant on Saturday. A few hours after that attack, a Jewish teenager was stabbed by a Palestinian on the corner of Nevi’im and Kheil Hahandasa Streets. Israeli security forces shot the assailant dead.
Earlier Wednesday, an Israeli Jewish woman was lightly hurt when her car was pummelled with stones hurled by Palestinians between the Har Homa and Tekoa settlements, near Jerusalem.
Violence has escalated dramatically in recent weeks, primarily in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday announced that he had ordered security forces to expedite the demolition of Palestinian terrorists’ homes as part of efforts to curb the wave of attacks against Israelis.
