The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has come in for heavy criticism for comparing a Jewish journalist to a concentration camp guard. When approached by a reporter from the Evening Standard newspaper, Mr. Livingstone told him hat he should not be working for a paper that has a "record of supporting fascism" - a reference to its sister paper, the Daily Mail, which flirted with fascism in the 1930s. He went on to ask whether the journalist, Oliver Finegold, was a "German war criminal". In reaction to the criticism, the mayor, who is known for his dislike of journalists, said "If he isn't happy he should not be working for a paper like that. You can't expect to work for the Daily Mail group and have the rest of society treat you with respect and as if you're a useful part of society. You are not."
