Bruno Gollnisch, professor of Law and Japanese Studies, has been suspended by his university Jean Moulin - Lyon III in France for five years after making remarks that appeared to deny the Holocaust. Gollnisch, who is the deputy leader of the extreme-right National Front (FN) party of Jean-Marie Le Pen, questioned whether the Nazis used gas chambers in the Holocaust and suggested that the number of Jews killed during World War II might have been exaggerated. His comments sparked uproar among Jewish and anti-racism groups. The ousted Gollnisch said he was the victim of a "witch-hunt" and blamed the university for succumbing to outside pressure.
