Jewish cemetery in Bolivia vandalized

01 Jul 2005

A Jewish cemetery in Bolivia has been desecrated recently with swastikas and Nazi slogans. Several swastikas were painted on the walls of Cementerio Israelita in the city of Cochabamba. The vandals also wrote “Juden raus” in German, which means “Jews out.” Cochabamba is home to around 120 of Bolivia's 600 Jews. The South American country is currently embroiled in political turmoil, following the resignation of president Carlos Mesa.
