Germany Interior minister likened to Hitler by Turkish newspaper

11 Mar 2005

Otto Schily, Germany's Interior minister, has become the target of a campaign by the Islamist Turkish newspaper "Vakit". The newspaper's production and distribution was banned by Schily in February, for repeatedly carrying anti-Semitic articles. Now, the editors are fighting back: In the course of the last week, Schily has made it on "Vakit"'s front page several time, being depicted as a Nazi or "second Hitler". In one photo montage, Schily is depicted wearing a swastika armband, in another, he is wearing the Hitler moustache. The minister is now said to have enough and is planning to ask his Turkish counterpart to take action against "Vakit".
