Firebombed school library reopens in Montreal

08 Dec 2004

A Jewish school library which was destroyed in a firebomb attack has reopened in Montreal after receiving support from hundreds of people outraged by the attack. The United Talmud Torahs school's library was destroyed on April 5, on the eve of Passover, by an arsonist who reportedly left a note claiming the act was in retaliation for Israel's assassination of a Hamas leader. The rebuilt library houses 8,000 donated volumes and another 5,000 books purchased with some of the $400,000 in cash donations received after the fire. The collection includes books in English, French and Hebrew.
