Jewish leaders in Germany regard two comic books released this week depicting the Holocaust in cartoon form as inappropriate. The first is "Auschwitz", designed by French artist Pascal Croci, and the other "Yossel", by the American artist Joe Kubert. The two comics are meant to introduce the history of the Holocaust and the Nazi regime to young readers in a format they are familiar with, it has been reported. But among Jews in Germany, the graphically depicted books have drawn criticism. Paul Spiegel, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said: "We will have to watch very carefully whether this kind of treatment really does address the people it is aimed for." Among the fears is that the books will become collectors' items for neo-Nazis.
