Cheney to attend Auschwitz liberation commemorations

The US vice president Dick Cheney is to attend commemorations taking place in Poland on 26 and 27 January 2005, on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp by Soviet forces. Some 40 delegations, including 22 heads of states and eight heads of government have confirmed their presence at a ceremony which around 10,000 people are expected to attend, including 1,700 survivors of the Nazi death camps. Rabbi Israel Singer will represent the World Jewish Congress at the event.
