United Nations General Assembly votes on Israel agenda items

13 Dec 2019

Today, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted eight draft resolutions from two agenda items that pertain to Palestinians and Israel.

Unfortunately, this year’s session of the UNGA has been no exception to the yearly saga of resolutions that are inherently biased against Israel. The World Jewish Congress applauds those countries who continue to support a fair and balanced approach towards Israel at the UN, like the United States, and those countries who are changing their votes on these resolutions such as Papua New Guinea.

During the meeting, the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was extended until June 2023. The World Jewish Congress calls on UNRWA to return to its mandate of relief work and assistance and to distance itself from the political entity it has become.
