The General Assembly

The UN General Assembly has continued to be the arena for these annual confrontations which have produced the same pattern in the UN human rights organs, notably the Commission on Human Rights and its Sub-Commission.

Recognizing the significance of the General Assembly as the world principal political international forum, the WJC President Edgar M. Bronfman became the first spokesman of an international Jewish organization to address that body. In his speech delivered in the summer of 1982 he conveyed the sense of outrage within the world Jewish community at the abuse of the Assembly’s processes through its sponsoring of the 1975 "Zionism equals racism" resolution.
