The first meeting of the newly reconstituted Policy Council of the World Jewish Congress, under the chairmanship of Cobi Benatoff, was held in Brussels, on Monday, 5 May 2008. The attendees at the meeting included a combination of the elected WJC lay leadership and professional staff. A strategic review of the priorities for the WJC going forward was discussed.

It was agreed that in the medium term with World Jewish Congress would focus its efforts on the following seven issues:

   
 
  • The Iranian Threat
 
  • De-Legitimization of Israel
 
  • Terrorism
 
  • Anti-Semitism
 
  • Restitution and Holocaust Legacy
 
  • Jews in Arab Lands
 
  • Inter-Religious Dialogue
