Candidates for WJC elections

Four people declared themselves as a candiate for the position of WJC President and one for Chairman of the Governong Board. Three of those standing for President - Mendel Kaplan, Ronald Lauder and Einat Wilf - made presentations to the Executive Committee meeting held in New York on 10 June 2007.

After hearing the three candidates the WJC Committee held an open vote, with 4 votes being cast for Mr Kaplan and 11 for Mr Lauder. The Executive Committee therefore resolved to recommend that the Governig Board - meeting later the same day - elect Mr Lauder as President.

At it's subsequent meeting the Governing Board voted 59-17* in favour of Mr Lauder vs Mr Kaplan, Ms Wilf having withdrawn her candidacy. Mr Lauder was therefore duely elected as President of the WJC

The Governing Board also unanimously elected Matthew Bronfman as its chairman.

The letters of candidacy and curriculum vitae as received from the candidates can be viewed below.

Ronald Lauder and Matthew Bronfman had mounted a united bid to lead the WJC and had run on a joint platform.
