The Executive Committee of the WJC met in New York on 10 June 2007.
After hearing three candidates present at its meeting in New York, the Executive Committee of the World Jewish Congress has resolved to propose to the Governing Board the election of Mr. Ronald S. Lauder as Acting President of the World Jewish Congress.
The WJC Governing Board is currently meeting in New York.
These meetings follow the announcement on 14 May 2007 by the president of the World Jewish Congress, Edgar M. Bronfman, that he intends to step down from his position on 10 June 2007.
The process for electing an acting president is described in a memorandum circulated to the WJC membership on May 11, 2007.
The WJC Governing Board meeting shall be open to WJC affiliated members who may not be members of the Governing Board. Though those members are not entitled to vote according to the WJC’s Constitution and Rules of Procedure, they may participate in the meeting at the discretion of the chair.
