Paideia: Education for European Jewish Leadership

Paideia - The European Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden - is a non denominational academic framework established in 2000 with a foundational grant from the Swedish government. Within an interdisciplinary academic setting, Paideia educates leaders for Europe - academicians, artists and community activists - towards fluency in Jewish sources. In renewing interpretation of Jewish text, Paideia is reviving a European Jewish voice long silenced by Communism and post-Holocaust trauma - a voice that can contribute to a culturally rich and pluralistic Europe.

To Apply

Paideia invites applications from qualified individuals regardless of age. Communities throughout Europe may propose candidates whom they envision filling leadership roles. Students will be candidates for grants meant to free them from work while participating in the program. No prior study experience in Jewish text is required. Transfer credits for undergraduate courses may be available at the completion of the year depending on the home university.

It arranges and subsidize inter-European weekend retreats and seminars, which students really value and enjoy because of their unique blend of Jewish tradition and European culture.

EUJS

The European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS) was founded in 1978 in Grenoble, France. Formerly known as the European Section of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS), it aimed to create a strong and independent leadership of Jewish students in Europe following WUJS's departure from Europe to Israel. In 1982, EUJS established its office in Brussels, Belgium, from where it operates to this day.
