International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians
The International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians (ICJP) is a global network of Jewish legislators, government ministers, and other elected officials. Its aim is to promote dialogue, the principles of democracy, the cause of human rights and the rule of law, and to combat racism, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, terrorism and Holocaust denial. The ICJP supports Israel and contributes to the creation of enduring peace in the Middle East.
The ICJP provides a forum for exchanges of ideas and fosters greater knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing Jewish parliamentarians and communities in Israel and the Diaspora.
US Congressman Eliot Engel was appointed as new chair of the ICJP, succeeding former Italian MP Fiamma Nirenstein. On 2/3 December 2013, the ICJP held the first meeting of its Steering Committee under the new chairman in New York and Washington, DC. The General Assembly of the ICJP will convene in Jerusalem in 2015. The last GA was held in June 2011 in Jerusalem.
The International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians will be coordinated by Sonia Gomes de Mesquita, the Chief Program Officer, and her Assistant, Cory Weiss. Cory joins WJC after having been an intern for Congressman Eliot L. Engel and the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
