prior to the Governing Board meeting
Jewish leaders from around the world are convening for a meeting of the World Jewish Congress Governing Board in Ashkelon, Israel, on Wednesday. The meeting at the Holiday Inn Hotel is being attended by around 130 delegates and observers from affiliated Jewish communities around the world and international Jewish organizations. It is the first time the WJC has met in Ashkelon.
Delegates will hear keynote speeches from WJC president Ronald S. Lauder, Governing Board chairman Matthew Bronfman and other senior WJC officials. Issues being debated include strategies to combat the threat posed by Iran and its nuclear program, the delegitimization of Israel, as well as the 'Next Generation and the World Jewish Congress.' Delegates are also set to decide on a number of administrative and policy matters, including the timing of the next WJC Plenary Assembly.
A briefing is to be given by the Israel Defense Forces at a luncheon to which mayors of towns in the Ashkelon region and representatives of kibbutzim and moshavim have been invited.
