NEW YORK - World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder on Tuesday praised the 100 US senators for their unanimous letter urging the Trump administration to offer support and assistance to US Jewish communities in light of the recent wave of anti-Semitic attacks and threats, and urged authorities on all levels to take every action to combat anti-Semitism and ensure the security of these communities.
“On behalf of the World Jewish Congress, which represents more than 100 Jewish communities on six continents, I am extraordinarily grateful for the outpouring of support expressed by so many Americans in recent weeks as anti-Semitic acts abounded across the country,” Lauder said.
“American Jews are living in a distressing new reality, in which anti-Semitic threats and incidents have become all too commonplace. Anti-Semitism has reared its ugly head in the US in the past, but not on such a widespread and consistent level. Politicians, local authorities, and lay citizens alike must be vigilant against all expressions of anti-Semitism and work together to ensure that these cowardly threats and acts of hatred never morph into violence.
“It is beyond reassuring to know that members of the US Senate are taking these threats seriously and are committed to protecting our communities. I know that President Trump is committed to the safety, security and well-being of all American citizens, and I trust that he and his administration will take all necessary steps to ensure that the Jewish community remains safe and secure,” Lauder concluded.
The World Jewish Congress, American Section last week alerted all of its member organizations and other community leaders to contact their representatives to urge them to sign the letter.
