NEW YORK - The World Jewish Congress on Friday condemned the “deeply biased” and “manipulative” resolution on the situation of Palestinian women, approved by the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at its session in New York.
Evelyn Sommer, Chair, WJC North America, said in a statement:
“The anti-Israel resolution passed today by the Commission on the Status of Women is deeply biased and overwhelmingly one-sided. It is disheartening to see that every single voting member state, with the exception of Israel, approved a document so replete with false accusations of culpability and clear distortions of reality.
“Under the guise of speaking out for the protection of Palestinian women, this Commission has exploited the chance to accuse Israel of being among the greatest human rights abusers, ignoring that Israel is in fact the most progressive state in the Middle East, especially in its treatment of women, and its only true democracy.
“It refers to the ‘violence and intimidation’ experienced by Palestinian women under Israeli rule, wrongly placing the onus for Palestinian women’s economic and social hardships on Israel, while blatantly absolving the Palestinian Authority and Hamas of any responsibility for the well-being of their constituents.
“Like far too many UN bodies, the CSW has manipulated the truth at Israel’s expense. It must be noted that Israel is the only state specifically designated for a resolution in this committee. We urge this Commission, and all other UN bodies, to cease singling out Israel for condemnation and to act in the objective manner demanded of such an organization.”
