GENEVA - World Jewish Congress CEO and Executive Vice President Robert Singer met in Geneva last week with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein of Jordan, to discuss issues of priority for Jewish communities around the world.
Singer expressed concern about the rise of anti-Semitism, particularly in Europe, and encouraged the Office of the High Commissioner to be more vocal against this and other forms of racism.
Prince Al Hussein told Singer that his office shared the concerns of the World Jewish Congress and was tackling these issues head on.
The two also discussed Item 7 on the Human Rights Council’s permanent agenda, which singles our Israel, as well as the council’s decision to compile a database of companies operating in the Palestinian territories and Golan Heights.
Prince Al Hussein said that he was pleased that the World Jewish Congress had reopened its office in Geneva, and that it was actively engaging with the Human Rights Council and his office. He said that he looked forward to continued cooperation between the WJC and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The meeting, the first between the two, was part of a two-day diplomatic visit by Singer to Geneva.
